Whether skiing downhill or cross country, on groomed to ungroomed slopes, Wyoming offers great outdoor winter recreation opportunities and some of the best powder in the world. There are guided trails for serious skiing that also allow for viewing wildlife. The many varieties of wildlife and stunning Teton vistas will stop you in your tracks. The area is known for its steep terrain, consistent fall line, deep powder, and endless backcountry. Many area ski resorts allow beginning and intermediate skiers to choose from both groomed runs and open bowls.

There are many choices for skiing in Wyoming. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers a 4,139′ vertical rise and over 2,500 acres of unparalleled backcountry access. On the other side of Jackson, Snow King Resort brings a completely different ski experience. If you enjoy long, steep slopes, this resort is best and offers two-hour lift tickets. Grand Targhee Resort, on the back of the Tetons, is great for the novice skier, providing wide open spaces and plenty of powder, and allows skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the adventure at their own speed.

White Pine Ski Area and Resort, located in the Wind River Mountains near Pinedale,  is the oldest ski area in Wyoming.  Sleeping Giant Ski Area, just three miles from Yellowstone National Park, has reopened with improved runs. Hogadon Ski Area on Casper Mountain offers a variety of terrains for visitors to the center of the state, and Snowy Range Ski Area is just a short drive from Laramie for those visiting southeast Wyoming. Regardless of where you are in Wyoming, you are within a day’s drive of some of the best skiing experiences to be found anywhere.
